BAND OF RUHKS

Band of Ruhks.  The musical collaboration in the Band of Ruhks has a magic all its own.  In the 1990’s as members of The Lonesome River Band, their work was critically acclaimed, during the apex of the group’s popularity.  In 2001, each of them embarked on their own personal musical journeys that led to new heights and influences.  Following a Lonesome River Band reunion performance in 2010, the three began to explore the possibility of making music together again.  They too realized the significance of their past works and were itching to make new music together.  Out of this desire and their longstanding friendship and mutual admiration, Band of Ruhks was born.  Band members:  Ronnie Bowman, bass/vocals; Don Rigsby, mandolin/vocals; Kenny Smith, guitar/vocals.  http://www.bandofruhks.com

_

CLAY HESS BAND

Clay Hess Band.   Clay's first introduction to many was as the lead guitarist for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, winning a Grammy Award during his tenure there.  After departing Skaggs, Hess toured and recorded with several of the top bands in bluegrass.  The epitome of driving bluegrass, this band has the experience and individual tenure in the genre to take their place among the best.  You can hear the result of all the jam sessions, bar gigs, bluegrass festivals, and hours learning from relatives, musicians and recordings in their performances.  Known for his syncopated sense of timing, Clay Hess always tries to keep you guessing what is coming next.  Band members:  Clay Hess, guitar/vocals; Nick Keen, mandolin; Luke Montgomery, banjo/vocals; Brennan  Hess, guitar/vocals; Irl Hees, bass/vocals.  http://clayhess.com

VOLUME FIVE

Volume Five.  These five musicians together blend into a band with true staying power, displaying superior musicianship, impeccable vocals and song selection.  Extremely talented, yet humble and genuine, they have been honored with two separate industry nominations, for the IBMA's Emerging Artist of the Year and the GMA Dove Award for Bluegrass Recorded Song of the Year.  Founded in early 2008, Volume Five has grown into one of bluegrass music's most unique new acts, leaving a quality and lasting impression of acoustic music wherever they perform.  Band members:  Glen Harrell, fiddle/vocals; Harry Clark, mandolin/vocals; Patton Wages, banjo/guitar/vocals; Colby Laney, guitar/vocals; Chris Williamson, bass/vocals.  http://www.volumefivebg.com

NED CRISP & BOTTOMLINE

Ned Crisp & Bottomline.  From the hills of eastern Kentucky, Ned Crisp & Bottomline carries on the tradition of bluegrass music and pays homage to its birthplace. This five-piece, high-energy band takes pride in their tight, four-part harmony vocals that encompass the traditional, contemporary, and gospel sounds of bluegrass, with their solid rhythm, silky smooth lead work, and consistently tight harmonies.  Band members: Ned Crisp, banjo/vocals; Zach Top, guitar/vocals; Brian Ross, dobro/vocals; Jared Doss, mandolin/vocals; Don Rambo, bass/vocals.  http://www.nedcrisp.com

- Philosophy of the Our Festival -

We are inviting pickers of all ages to an exciting weekend of bluegrass at its best. We believe that means lots of nice folks coming together to share their music and their stories, seeing old friends and making new ones. A weekend where the music never stops...and we don't mean just on stage!

We think bluegrass at its best means celebrating and encouraging the talents of young musicians as well as the old timers. By doing so, we are assuring the future of acoustic roots music in America and our festival seeks to nurture that tradition.

It's all about the music folks. The preservation of this body of music; its traditions and values as well as many instruments long forgotten.

Join us then, and see what comes of it. You never know, there may be a Bluegrass musician hidden in you some where.....

EXCITING NEWS ON FOR TAYLOR'S CAMP

The Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival Taylor Richards Scholarship was established in 2015 in memory of Taylor Richards.   Follow the link for more information of this program.

TAYLOR RICHARDS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM & APPLICATION

_

OUR YOUTH PROGRAM IS NAMED "TAYLOR'S CAMP"

IN HONOR OF THIS FINE GENTLEMAN

_

Taylor Richards was a young man who epitomized our vision for developing an instructional camp to nurture an appreciation of American roots music in the next generation. From the day Taylor walked into a little music store in Leavenworth Washington with his dad Steve, with a little interest in music but not much thought of Bluegrass, until he played on our stage in the guitar flat-picking contest 5 years later, a transformation took place. Every summer he would come out from his home in Georgia to see his dad and they would attend the Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival. With every festival he would get better and better; gleaning information, techniques and style from everyone he could play with. Soaking up everything he could hold. He and his dad found a common ground that cemented them together, no matter how far apart they were the rest of the year. He grew into a man we were all so proud to know, with his quick wit, gentle heart, gracious manners and a smile that could calm the most hectic moment. Taylor wanted to continue his family's tradition of military service and was killed in combat serving his country as a Lance Corporal Marine in Afghanistan on June 26th, 2010. We, the Board of Directors of the Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival, wanted to honor Taylor 's memory and his love of Bluegrass music by naming our school “ Taylor 's Camp”. We know we couldn't ask for a better guardian angel for our “kids”.

* Please Note - This workshop is free for all kids 12 and under. All participants must be accompanied by an adult. Festival admission fees apply to all youth over 12.
