~ GREAT BLUEGRASS SINCE 2003 ~

OUR 2023 FESTIVAL PERFORMERS ARE:

_

SISTER SADIE

In 2012 Sister Sadie hit the bluegrass world like a sonic boom and they haven’t looked back. Awards and nominations, individually and as a band are so numerous it is head spinning. Sister Sadie is a three-time winner of the IBMA Vocal Group of the Year, 2019-2021. Their first album was nominated for a Grammy and they were the first all-female band to win IBMA’s Entertainer of the Year in 2020. Clearly they are a musical force to be reckoned with and will not disappoint, with their instrumental drive and supreme vocal harmonies. Band Members: Gena Britt, banjo/vocals; Deanie Richardson, fiddle; Mary Meyer, mandolin/vocals; Jaelee Roberts, guitar/vocals; Hasee Ciaccio, bass/vocals.

_

KENNY & AMANDA SMITH

BAND

This multi-award winning duo has brought passion for the music and each other to the stage for two decades. They continue to be one of the most compelling sounds in bluegrass with their fresh song choice, arrangements and Kenny’s innovative guitar work, that have proven to be a winning combination for 20 years. Their music and stage presence have entertained and cultivated loyal fans throughout their careers. Band Members: Kenny Smith, guitar/vocals; Amanda Smith, guitar/vocals; Cory Piatt, mandolin/vocals; Trent Callicut, banjo; Kyle Perkins, bass.

_

AUTHENTIC UNLIMITED

A relatively new band made up of accomplished, veteran players, Authentic Unlimited, is truly authentic. Offering a “powerful and energetic” sound, Authentic Unlimited brings years of combined musical experience and drive to their performances. Jerry, Eli and Stephen were members of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. When Doyle retired, they formed this commanding band. Adding John and Jesse, both powerhouses themselves, Authentic Unlimited was complete. Uniquely, they write, record and produce all their own music. Band Members:  John Meador, guitar/vocals; Eli Johnston, banjo/vocals; Jesse Brock, mandolin/vocals; Stephen Burwell, fiddle; Jerry Cole, bass/vocals.

_

NICK DUMAS & BRANCHLINE

A Washington native, Nick is an emerging artist in bluegrass. In addition to being a part of the award winning band for IBMA’s “Album of the Year” in 2018, he has completed his most ambitious album to date with “Details”. It clearly demonstrates why he is one of the most diverse talents in the industry today. Nick has now formed his own band, Branchline, focused on a mix of original material along with some of the classics. Band Members: Nick Dumas, mandolin/vocals; Rick Faris, guitar/vocals; Hana Dumas, fiddle/vocals; Michael Kilby, Dobro; Will McSeveney, banjo; Andrew Knapp, bass.

_

ROCK RIDGE

BLUEGRASS BAND

This Northwest gem has everything necessary and then some to tickle your bluegrass heart. All four members make their home in the Pacific Northwest. Superb vocals and harmonies, highlight much of their repertoire, all backed by impressive and inspiring instrumental musicianship. This is a band you will want to hear more from as you journey along on your bluegrass travels.  Band Members: Josie Grant, guitar/vocals; Dale Adkins, 5-string banjo/vocals; Rick Grant, mandolin/fiddle/vocals; Suzanne Adkins, bass/vocals.

_

RUSTY HINGES BLUEGRASS

Grown out of the bluegrass jam circles at local festivals, their music is a blend of traditional and contemporary bluegrass and Americana. Each member of Rusty Hinges is a veteran of the Pacific Northwest bluegrass scene. Their collective experience results in a musical program that is polished and entertaining. Band Members: Jim Delfel, guitar/vocals; Al Price, banjo/vocals; Bryan Chaffe, guitar/vocals; Reade Obern, Fiddle; Jan Delfel, bass.

- Philosophy of the Our Festival -

We are inviting pickers of all ages to an exciting weekend of bluegrass at its best. We believe that means lots of nice folks coming together to share their music and their stories, seeing old friends and making new ones. A weekend where the music never stops...and we don't mean just on stage!

We think bluegrass at its best means celebrating and encouraging the talents of young musicians as well as the old timers. By doing so, we are assuring the future of acoustic roots music in America and our festival seeks to nurture that tradition.

It's all about the music folks. The preservation of this body of music; its traditions and values as well as many instruments long forgotten.

Join us then, and see what comes of it. You never know, there may be a Bluegrass musician hidden in you some where.....

EXCITING NEWS ON FOR TAYLOR'S CAMP

The Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival Taylor Richards Scholarship was established in 2015 in memory of Taylor Richards.   A link will be available soon for more information of this program.

TAYLOR RICHARDS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

_

OUR YOUTH PROGRAM IS NAMED "TAYLOR'S CAMP"

IN HONOR OF THIS FINE GENTLEMAN

_

Taylor Richards was a young man who epitomized our vision for developing an instructional camp to nurture an appreciation of American roots music in the next generation. From the day Taylor walked into a little music store in Leavenworth Washington with his dad Steve, with a little interest in music but not much thought of Bluegrass, until he played on our stage in the guitar flat-picking contest 5 years later, a transformation took place. Every summer he would come out from his home in Georgia to see his dad and they would attend the Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival. With every festival he would get better and better; gleaning information, techniques and style from everyone he could play with. Soaking up everything he could hold. He and his dad found a common ground that cemented them together, no matter how far apart they were the rest of the year. He grew into a man we were all so proud to know, with his quick wit, gentle heart, gracious manners and a smile that could calm the most hectic moment. Taylor wanted to continue his family's tradition of military service and was killed in combat serving his country as a Lance Corporal Marine in Afghanistan on June 26th, 2010. We, the Board of Directors of the Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival, wanted to honor Taylor 's memory and his love of Bluegrass music by naming our school “ Taylor 's Camp”. We know we couldn't ask for a better guardian angel for our “kids”.
